ENO Baylis is ENO's Learning and Participation department. Established in 1985, ENO Baylis is named after Lilian Baylis, the pioneering theatre manager whose vision of accessible opera led to the founding of ENO. ENO Baylis offers opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience and enjoy opera at ENO. Our programme includes creative workshops, training courses, performance opportunities, talks and study events and the chance to attend productions at the London Coliseum. Last year 12,000 people took part in ENO Baylis projects and for many of these this was their first experience of opera. All ENO Baylis initiatives are led by professional artists. These include ENO company singers and orchestra members as well as composers, writers, directors and designers who are experienced in encouraging non-professionals to get involved in singing, composing, performing or other aspects of opera.

The below video shows an example of a ENO Baylis Project last season on Madam Butterfly.

InsideOut is a fantastic resource for young people interested in what goes on inside a busy producing opera company. The door to the world of opera has been flung open, with singers' blogs, interviews with the artistic team, and a focus on singing.

It is packed full of information and resources to inspire and engage, with opportunities to take part by entering our singing competition, submitting reviews of the show to the site as an interactive critic, or by posing particular questions to singers and members of the cast and crew through our forum.

Areas of the site link to a variety of curriculum areas such as music, drama, performing arts, art & design and textiles. As well as performance related resources such as opera packs and related activities, the site taps into key hard to reach areas such as technical theatre and production.

InsideOut is suitable for secondary school pupils of all ages.
